(Red spinach sautéed with coconut and spices)
What better way to eat vegetables than to eat them fresh from the garden? We bring to you a scrumptious dish, power packed with proteins from our very own organic garden. Cheera Payar Thoran is a well-known side dish in our part of the world. Light, crispy and healthy, the shredded purplish leaves of your cheera (spinach) will taste as good as they look!
Preparation: 10 minutes
Serves: 3 to 4 people
Green Gram dal 1/2 cup
Finely chopped red spinach 300 grams
Coconut grated 100 grams
Chilli powder 1⁄2 teaspoon
Turmeric a pinch
Jeera 1⁄4 teaspoon
Garlic pods 3 nos
Salt to taste
Coconut oil 2 teaspoons
Red chilli 2 nos
Mustard seeds 5 grams
Soak Green Gram dal for half hour and cook in very little water till soft.
Grind the ingredients (chilli powder, turmeric, jeera, coconut, garlic pods) and add them to the shredded spinach.
Heat the oil in a pan. Add the broken red chilly and mustard seeds.
As the chilly and mustard seeds start spluttering, add the spinach and the ground ingredients.
Cook well in low flame for 3 to 4 minutes. Use a flat spatula and lightly stir.
